The Place I Found Within Myself

A reflection on the journey of finding a quiet place within ourselves where we can feel whole, grounded, and at home—and an invitation to look within and discover what has been waiting there all along.

There is something I have been realizing lately as I look back at the relationships and experiences that have shaped my life.

For so long, I thought the greatest lessons would be about the patterns I repeated, the ways I lost myself, or the things I needed to learn about love.

But I think there is something deeper than all of that.

It is not simply what I have learned from my relationships.

It is how I feel inside myself now.

I feel grounded.

Calm.

Content.

Not because I no longer have hopes or dreams or desires. I still have so many of them. I still want to love deeply. I still want partnership. I still want a life filled with meaning, creativity, connection, and experiences I haven't even imagined yet.

But I no longer feel as though something is missing when I am alone.

I am happy with myself.

I love so many things about who I am.

And there is a peace inside me now that I didn’t know how to create when I was younger.

I have always been someone who feels deeply.

I become very attuned to the people in my life. I notice things that aren't always spoken. I can often sense when someone is struggling, when something has shifted, or when someone is carrying something they haven't found the words for yet.

That sensitivity has always been part of me.

It is part of why I connect so deeply with people—through friendships, romantic relationships, and even through the work I do with my clients.

When I love someone, I don't know how to love halfway.

I want to understand them. I want to know what makes them feel alive. I want to support them, encourage them, and give them everything I have to give.

In many ways, I still believe that is part of what true love is.

An investment.

A willingness to show up wholeheartedly for another person.

But I have learned that there is another side to loving that deeply.

Love has to have somewhere to land.

I can give deeply and still need to be met.

I can invest wholeheartedly and still need reciprocity.

I can care about another person's heart without abandoning my own.

And when that balance is missing, that is where the chaos begins.

For a long time, I didn't understand that.

When I was younger, relationships could consume me so completely that when one ended, it felt as though my entire life had ended with it. I would feel empty, lost, and disconnected from myself. Sometimes it took an incredibly long time to find my way back.

But something has changed.

Now, when a relationship ends, I can still feel sadness. I can still have moments of doubt, longing, disappointment, or grief.

But I don't feel lost.

If anything, I find more of myself.

And that might be one of the clearest ways I know that I have changed.

I saw glimpses of this even in my most recent relationship.

There were times when I wondered how someone could not see what I knew was there in me. I would think, How can you not love me? How can you not see how amazing I am when I know other people can?

But underneath those questions was something deeper.

I wanted to be seen.

Not simply physically. Not simply for what I could give someone or how I could make them feel.

I wanted someone to see the whole of me.

The way I think.

The way I feel.

The depth at which I experience connection.

The person underneath everything visible.

And when I didn't feel seen in that way, I sometimes questioned my own worth instead of recognizing that another person's capacity to meet me is not a measurement of what I am worth.

Someone else's inability to fully see me does not make me less worthy of being seen.

That realization has changed something in me.

I don't want to become someone who loves less.

I want to become someone who loves wisely.

I want a life partner. I want a deep, real connection where two people can bring their whole selves to one another.

I want to give wholeheartedly and be met wholeheartedly.

Not one person giving while the other takes.

Not one person waiting while the other remains unavailable.

Not one person shrinking so the other can remain comfortable.

But two people who can stand fully in who they are and still choose each other.

Two people who have their own lives, their own passions, their own sense of self—and who choose to build something beautiful together without either person disappearing inside of it.

And perhaps that is the greatest difference between who I was and who I am becoming.

I used to think belonging to someone meant giving them so much of myself that there was little left for me.

Now I understand that healthy love allows both people to remain fully themselves.

I can love someone deeply without making them the center of my identity.

I can care about someone without carrying their life.

I can give without emptying myself.

I can be deeply connected without becoming consumed.

And perhaps most importantly, I can love someone and still belong completely to myself.

That is why being single feels so different to me now.

I don't experience it as waiting.

I experience it as freedom.

There is something beautiful about knowing that my life is full as it is while still leaving space for something new to enter it.

It feels like cleaning the slate without leaving behind any residue.

Not erasing what came before.

Not pretending it didn't matter.

Not carrying every relationship forward as something unfinished.

Simply allowing the page to be clear enough for something new to be written.

Something I cannot yet imagine.

Something I don't need to control.

Something that can arrive in its own time and in its own way.

And that feels hopeful to me.

Beautiful, even.

Because I am no longer looking for someone to complete me.

I am looking for someone who can meet me where I already am.

I don't need someone to give me a sense of worth.

I want someone who recognizes the worth I already know I have.

I don't need someone to give me a life.

I want someone who wants to build a life alongside the one we each already have.

And I don't need to lose myself in love anymore.

I want to bring myself fully into it.

When I look at the woman I am today, I feel something I didn't always feel when I looked in the mirror.

Pride.

Not because I did everything perfectly.

I didn't.

Not because I figured everything out on my own.

I didn't.

There were people who guided me, loved me, challenged me, supported me, and helped me find my way.

But I did the work.

I faced what hurt.

I questioned what I had been taught.

I broke patterns.

I learned to look inward.

I learned to sit with myself.

And slowly, I created a relationship with myself that I no longer want to abandon.

Maybe that is my true growth.

Not that I no longer need anyone.

Not that I no longer want love.

Not that relationships no longer affect me.

But that I have become someone I can return to.

And when I return to myself, I don't feel like I am starting over.

I feel like I am beginning again—with everything I have learned, everything I have become, and a heart that is still open to what comes next.

I don't know what that will be.

And for perhaps the first time, I don't need to know.

The page is clear.

My life is mine.

My heart is open.

And I am grateful to be here.

Maybe this is what I have been searching for all along—not a life without pain, uncertainty, or change, but a place within myself where I can still feel whole through all of it.

And perhaps that place exists within all of us.

What would it feel like to find your way there?

What would you discover if you stopped looking outside of yourself for the things you have been learning to give yourself all along?

What parts of you are still waiting to be seen, heard, loved, or understood?

And who might you become if you no longer felt you had to leave yourself behind to be loved?

Maybe coming home to ourselves isn't about finally arriving.

Maybe it is about learning that wherever life takes us, we can always return.
