Small Signs and What Comes Next

This morning, I sat in church listening to the music with tears running down my face. My heart felt heavy, and my mind was still caught in the idea of letting go.

As the service began, Pastor Troy spoke about courage, and once again, the message aligned perfectly with what my soul had been writing and speaking about.

One truth that stayed with me was this: “Courage is your fear that has said its prayers and prepared.”

He spoke about the courage it takes to stand in the face of fear and how often we reject reality because we are not ready to face it. We may say, “This is what I see,” while forgetting that it may not be all there is to see.

Pastor Troy also explained the difference between curiosity and courage: curiosity looks once, but courage keeps looking even when the answer has not yet appeared.

He reminded us that courage is the first step toward freedom, but real courage is revealed in what we do next. Do we walk away when nothing seems to happen, or do we keep trusting?

Even a small sign can carry great significance.

Like waiting for rain in a drought, true transformation requires our participation. It asks us to stand firm in fear, move forward into the unknown, and trust that every small sign is a gift reminding us to keep holding on to faith until the rain comes, the drought ends, and the light is revealed.

I can't control what happens, but I can choose what I do next.

Which leads me back to what I wrote last week…

So perhaps this is the deepest meaning of surrender.

Having the courage to keep moving forward, not knowing what will happen, and trusting that I don't need to know in order to keep living my life.

It is not giving up on love.

It is giving up the need to control what love becomes.
